Barnet Council admits to being run by clowns

The council has posted a ‘leadership’ video clip on YouTube in which officer Jonathan Smale describes the leader as a ringmaster, surrounded by clowns - one of whom is wearing a green jacket because he is environmentally aware! Watch it for yourself if you think I am making this up!

Mr Smale says clowns are prepared to take risks. Quite so. But not usually with £28 million of our money.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at such an absurd waste of public resources.

He says "everyone loves a clown". Perhaps, but eventually the circus leaves town. Unfortunately, we're stuck with this lot.

Haven't they got better things to do with tax-payers' money?

Local councils should focus their attention on repairing pot-holes in the road and collecting the rubbish - not trying to entertain us!

If Mr Smailes ambition was to encourage risk taking in Barnet Council, then he has succeeded spectacularly.

Maybe they should have done a video explaining that risks have a downside.

Are they going to ask council workmen not to wear safety gear, policemen to shun flak jackets and parents to abandon immunisation. All risky.

Why don't they promote being sensible.

It reminds me of the song by Steelers Wheel.

"Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle of you".

Why do staff have to sit and talk about leadership qualities. Total waste of public money - well my money really.

I think a more appropriate song for Barnet Council is “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits, which is what we are in!

Song for Barnet Council? I can't quite recall the name of the song. It was something like "The Bankers song" and it was by Ivor Biggun and the Red Nosed Burglars.

Maybe a quick google search will help?

I saw the heading of this article on the Barnet Times website and thought it was about the video!

I've never seen a clown squirt his flower in the face of government bureaucracy. What circus does Smale belong to? Ah yes, Barnet Council.
